Bennet’s Two Month Update

Our little Bennet is officially two months old and is growing like a weed.  He’s still the sweetest baby and really only cries if he’s hungry or wet.  He’s now smiling and has rolled over as well.  All of which is great progress for a two month old.:)   About three weeks ago, we discovered what looked like a scratch by one of his eyebrows.  Well, we knew something was up when it started to grow and become a deeper red color.  So, I made an appointment with his pediatrician, and she confirmed what we thought,  that he has a strawberry hemangioma or strawberry birthmark.  Basically, it has to do with his blood vessels and the mark can/will grow rapidly from now until about 6 – 12 months.  Each one is different, so it just all depends.  The good news is that they are fairly common, cause no pain and eventually fade away.  Just to be on the safe side though, our pediatrician recommended a pediatric dermatologist at UNC.  We saw him yesterday and he gave us a relatively new treatment for hemangiomas – a topical cream that can stop the growth.  We’re not really sure if it will work or not, since every case is different.  So, we’re going to monitor it and see what happens.  Either way, we know that it’ll be fine and that there are options, and worse case scenario, they can perform laser treatments when Bennet gets older, to help it fade faster.  Most however, fade completely by the time the child is 5. I’m sure that we won’t have to go the laser/surgery route, but it’s just nice to know.  These little guys sure keep us on our toes, huh?:)  But here’s a recent picture of Bennet playing in his crib.  His eyes just keep getting bigger and bigger and he still resembles his big brother a lot at this age.
